1.morethan

morethan这个词组本身是“多于，超出 ，比...多
，不仅仅，不止 ”这个含义。例如：Altogethermorethan70percentofthesurfaceofourplanetiscoveredbywater.这句话可以翻译为：我们星球的表面有超过70%的部分都是被水所覆盖的 。

而且 ，morethan放在名词之前
，就是“不仅仅
”这个含义了
。例如：

①Hibernationismorethansleep.冬眠不仅仅是睡眠。

②You’remorethanonemanfighting.你不只是一个人在战斗 。

此外，morethan用于形容词或副词前 ，则是可以用来表示程度的
。例如：

①Myparentsaremorethankindtome.则意为：父母对我非常好。

②Sheismorethancarefulindoingthings.她做事非常认真 。

③Inclass,helistensmorethanattentively.课堂上，她聚精会神的听着。

另外
，morethan用于句子前，还可用来表示否定
。如：

Heearnsmoremoneythanhecanspend.他挣了好多钱都花不完。

2.moreAthanB和lessBthanA

我们都知道 ，more后面接的是肯定的对象
，less后面的是否定对象 。那than呢?MoreAthanB,的含义是“是A而不是B”;与其说B，不如说A ”.

①Hewasmorefrightenedthanhurt.与其说他受伤了 ，不如说他被吓到了
。

②Heismoreluckythanclever.他是幸运
，而不是聪明。

③Heismoreaclosefriendthanaboyfriendtoher.他对她而言，是一个亲密的朋友 ，而不是男朋友 。

而lessBthanA则是“是A而不是B
”的含义
。如：

Jimislesshonestthanhisbrother.这句话则可翻译为“Jim不像他兄弟那样诚实”。

3.nomore...than和not...anymorethan

nomore...than和not...anymorethan的含义也是相同的
，意思是“正如...也不那样，A和B都不 ” 。如：

MarryisnomorediligentthanTom.这句话的意思是“Marry和Tom都不勤奋”
。同样的 ，WecannomoreleavethePartythanfishcanleavewater.这句话的意思则是：我们不能离开宴会
，正如鱼不能离开水一样。

4.nomorethan和notanymorethan

nomorethan和notanymorethan这对词组和前面所讲的有所不同，它们意思是相同的 ，都是“不多于，不超过
”的含义 。例如：

AbrahamLincoln'swholeschooleducationaddeduptonomorethanoneyear.这句话的含义就是：AbrahamLincoln的整个学校教育时间加起来不超过一年
。

5.notmore...than

这个词组看起来和notmorethan相似
，但是含义有很大的不同。它是“不比...”的意思 。

Thisstoryisnotmoreinterestingthanthatone.这个故事并不比那个故事有趣。

=Thisstoryisnotso/asinterestingasthatone.这个故事和那个故事一样无趣，没有吸引力
