“加油 ”这个短语从字面上理解就是给某些引擎机器加入汽油
，而中国人在比赛或竞赛中常常大声喊出这个短语来鼓励参赛者。

TheOxforddictionaryentryidentifies"addoil"asatranslationofCantonese"gayau，"andcitesthattheHongKongEnglishuseof"addoil"canbedatedbackasearlyas1964.

牛津字典给“加油
”的定义中提到这个短语的发音来自粤语“gayau” ，并且提到香港英语中最早使用addoil表示加油可追溯到1964年 。
