，涂抹了我们画出的蓝图，给我们的不透风、不漏水严密理论系统搠上大大小小的窟窿。

Meantime,myyoungersisterquietlyproducedsomeofherowncompositions,intimatingthat,sinceEmily’shadgivenmepleasure,Imightliketolookathers.Icouldnotbutbeapartialjudge,yetIthoughtthattheseverses,too,hadasweet,sincerepathosoftheirown.

　　Wehadveryearlycherishedthedreamofonedaybecomingauthors.Thisdream,neverrelinquishedevenwhendistancedividedandabsorbingtasksoccupiedus,nowsuddenlyacquiredstrengthandconsistency:ittookthecharacterofaresolve.Weagreedtoarrangeasmallselectionofourpoems,and,ifpossible,togetthemprinted.Aversetopersonalpublicity,weveiledourownnamesunderthoseofCurrer,Ellis,andActonBell;theambiguouschoicebeingdictatedbyasortofconscientiousscrupleatassumingChristiannamespositivelymasculine,whilewedidnotliketodeclareourselveswomen,because–withoutatthattimesuspectingthatourmodeofwritingandthinkingwasnotwhatiscalled‘feminine’–wehadavagueimpressionthatauthoressesareliabletobelookedonwithprejudice.
